Chiefs' Edwards-Helaire suffers knee injury in SNF loss vs. Bills

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire left Sunday's 38-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills with a knee injury in the third quarter and didn't return.

Edwards-Helaire needed to be carried off the field before spending time in the medical tent then heading to the locker room. Kansas City ruled him out minutes later.

The second-year tailback racked up only 13 yards on seven rushing attempts before exiting. He entered Week 5 leading Kansas City in rushing with 291 yards on 58 carries. The 22-year-old also caught seven passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns over the first four games this season.

Darrel Williams stepped up as the Chiefs' primary runner versus Buffalo with Edwards-Helaire sidelined, but he failed to do much. Williams finished the night with only five carries for 27 yards.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who had had a quiet passing performance, was the Chiefs' leading runner on Sunday Night Football. He amassed 61 rushing yards on eight carries.

Kansas City struggled on both sides of the ball Sunday, with its offense turning the ball over four times and the defense allowing 436 total yards. The loss dropped the Chiefs to 2-3 this year, the worst record in the AFC West.
