Eric Mamer, the European Commission's chief spokesperson, has said at his regular briefing that there is nothing new about the EU's continuing to insist that the European court of justice should continue to have a role in oversight of the Northern Ireland protocol, as the text of the protocol sets out. The EU is close to the end of the road with the UK over the Northern Ireland protocol, accusing David Frost, the Brexit minister, of trying to undermine serious attempts to solve the problem, Simon Coveney, the Irish foreign minister, has said. My colleague Lisa O'Carroll has the story here.
