David Amess, a Conservative MP, was stabbed in his constituency surgery around lunchtime and has just died. The man responsible has been arrested but we don't know yet whether he was a terrorist or just a loony.
I don't know how it is in other countries but our political system depends on people being able to see their MPs by appointment when they are in trouble and can't get through the red tape any other way. If that can't be done any more, it will hardly be the same country.
Politics have become poisonous, thanks to Twitter. Everyone has become so full of hate for anyone who dares to disagree with them.
