Five kittens were rescued and one found dead after being abandoned in a dumpster next to a business in Hagersville.

Haldimand County Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the animal cruelty incident.

A Good Samaritan was walking on John Street around 7 p.m. Oct. 18 when they heard the sound of crying kittens. Two kittens were rescued from a bucket of water and three from inside the bin, OPP said.

One kitten was found dead in the bucket of water.

The kittens have since been taken to Purrfect Companions of Norfolk, a cat and kitten rescue organization in Delhi.

OPP are asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.

To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or helpsolvecrime.com.
