After download os, how transfer to microsd without old os password?o

PURPOSE: transfer new desktop os download to a microsd card, but don't have os password.
debian 10 buster - orangepi single armboard computer
I only use the terminal for doing things, like transferring over the new OS to a microsd card as orangepi only uses a microsd.
After download I used to use a command line command like this:
"sudo cp name.new.os forget.rest.here".
Haven't used debian in 9 months - forgot a lot!
