Opinion Thread - Desktop Icons and WorkSpaces
by SlowCoder from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5R05W)
Both of the following questions are about personal opinion, and personal process. I'm just curious people's thoughts.
1. Desktop Icons - Many people choose to have a "clean" desktop. No icons, no links. I find that placing links to my most used data locations to be very fast and useful, that no other solution has been able supplant. A single click to open those resources, vs. opening a file browser and navigating to location. What are your reasons, for or against, the use of icons on the desktop?
2. Workspaces - I've never found it useful to have multiple workspaces that I need to flip back and forth to do anything. They don't seem helpful to add desktop space, unlike multiple monitors. What do workspaces provide, that simple task-switching doesn't, that they are so widely available across different DEs?
