Panthers replace struggling Darnold with Walker in 4th quarter vs. Giants
The Carolina Panthers replaced quarterback Sam Darnold with P.J. Walker in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the New York Giants.
Darnold left the contest with Carolina trailing 15-3. He completed 16 of 25 passes for 111 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. The Panthers converted only eight first downs while amassing 137 total yards versus the Giants with Darnold under center.
The 24-year-old passer entered Week 7 with a 61.2 completion percentage and recorded 1,573 passing yards for seven touchdowns against seven interceptions.
Carolina started the 2021 season with three consecutive wins but has since lost three straight.
Walker didn't attempt a pass through the first six games of the year after appearing in four contests (one start) in 2020. The 26-year-old signed with the Panthers last season following a strong stint in the XFL.
