Titans signing Peterson amid Henry injury
The Tennessee Titans are signing free agent Adrian Peterson with star running back Derrick Henry sidelined due to a foot injury, Peterson told Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.
The Titans will reportedly sign Peterson to the practice squad before elevating him to the active roster, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Henry is in danger of missing the rest of the campaign after reportedly breaking the fifth metatarsal bone in his foot. The running back will undergo surgery, but the Titans left the door open for him to return late in the campaign.
"The workout was good," Peterson told Anderson. He continued, "It feels good to get back into football movement and to sign with a contender. We have big shoes to fill for Derrick Henry, who I feel was the front-runner for MVP, but I'm looking forward to contributing to the running back room and helping the Titans to win the division and to chase the ultimate goal of winning a championship."
Peterson hasn't played this season but is coming off another solid campaign for the Detroit Lions in 2020. The 36-year-old racked up 604 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 appearances.
The future Hall of Famer had 1,940 yards and 12 scores across the two prior years with the Washington Football Team.
Peterson is fifth on the all-time rushing list with 14,820 yards and sits just 449 yards behind Barry Sanders for fourth.
Peterson will join a running back group that consists of Jeremy McNichols, Dontrell Hilliard, and Mekhi Sargent.
