The New York Giants placed running back Saquon Barkley on the COVID-19 list Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Barkley's retest came back positive after an initial positive result, a source told Ralph Vacchiano of SNY. The running back is vaccinated and requires two negative tests within 24 hours to be cleared, Rapoport adds.

The Giants registered 13 positive tests Tuesday, though 12 returned negative when retested, coach Joe Judge said Wednesday, according to Paul Schwartz of the NY Post. The organization was reportedly sent for additional tests Wednesday following the scare.

New York also placed safety Xavier McKinney on the COVID-19 list, added Rapoport.

Barkley's status for Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders was already in question due to a low ankle sprain suffered in Week 5. He was a non-participant in practice Wednesday with COVID-19 protocol and ankle designations.

The 24-year-old entered the 2021 campaign coming off a torn ACL. He accumulated 195 yards on 54 carries through five games before going down with the ankle injury.
