Panthers activate McCaffrey after 5-game absence
The Carolina Panthers activated Christian McCaffrey off injured reserve, the team announced Saturday.
McCaffrey, who hasn't played since Week 3 due to a hamstring injury, will go through a pregame workout Sunday to make sure he can participate against the New England Patriots, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
If the star running back plays, he could see a limited workload, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.
The 25-year-old has struggled with durability, playing in just six games since 2020. McCaffrey recorded 364 scrimmage yards through three games this season before suffering the injury.
Additionally, Sam Darnold cleared the concussion protocol. However, he remains a game-time decision for Sunday's contest with a shoulder ailment. Head coach Matt Rhule noted Friday that Darnold could serve as quarterback P.J. Walker's backup against the Patriots.
The Panthers sit at 4-4 after losing four of their last five games.
