Report: Saints inquired about trade for Broncos' Bridgewater

The New Orleans Saints tried to reunite with a familiar face in the wake of Jameis Winston's season-ending ACL injury.

The Saints inquired about trading for Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. However, the Broncos weren't interested in shipping off the veteran.

Bridgewater spent two years as the Saints' backup from 2018 to 2019. He filled in admirably for an injured Drew Brees during the 2019 campaign, recording a 5-0 record with nine touchdowns to two interceptions over five starts.

The 28-year-old landed in Denver this offseason after a disappointing one-year stint with the Carolina Panthers. Bridgewater beat out Drew Lock for the Broncos' starting job this season and led the team to a 3-0 start before losing four of the last five.

The Saints, who sit at 5-2, elected to look internally for their quarterback answer, naming Trevor Siemian the starter for Week 9. Siemian completed 16 of 19 passes for one touchdown after coming in for Winston in last Sunday's victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Taysom Hill and Ian Book are behind Siemian on the quarterback depth chart.
