McMaster, Mohawk report social media threat

Hamilton police are investigating an alleged threat against McMaster University and Mohawk College that was posted on social media over the weekend.

The comments, posted on a social media thread, predicted a threat at both Hamilton post secondary institutions for Monday, according to statements from both schools.

In a statement posted on its website, McMaster said its security service notified Hamilton police.

Mohawk College also said its security service has been touch with police and sent out a similar message to students and staff.

Police are managing the investigation and have not given any indication that this represents a credible threat to safety on college campuses," the Mohawk statement reads.

Classes and activities are going ahead as normal at both schools Monday.

The university has not been made aware of any reason not (to) go ahead with its usual operations," McMaster said.
