Report: Patriots' Jones won't be fined for ankle hold on Panthers' Burns
New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones won't be fined for unnecessary roughness after he grabbed the ankle of Carolina Panthers pass-rusher Brian Burns in Week 9, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Jones was heavily criticized by many across the NFL for grabbing and twisting Burns' ankle after the defender stripped the signal-caller of the ball last week. Burns was down on the field after the play, but he returned to the game minutes later following further evaluation on his ankle.
Panthers linebacker Frankie Luvu recovered the fumble.
Carolina linebacker Haason Reddick criticized Jones this week, calling the play "completely dirty."
Jones didn't apologize to Burns, saying he thought the defender had the ball.
Burns didn't buy Jones' explanation.
"I think it's some bull," the pass-rusher said Wednesday.
