Stoney Creek garage explosion sends man to hospital
An explosion at a home in Stoney Creek sent one person to hospital with serious injuries Saturday evening.
First responders were called to a house on Francis Avenue - a street north of the QEW and east of Confederation Park beach, near Green Road - at about 7:40 p.m. for an explosion. Eight fire units were sent to the scene.
Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Carla MacDonald said responding firefighters found a small blaze at the back of a garage and quickly extinguished it.
A 33-year-old man was injured in the blast.
The victim suffered life altering injuries, Hamilton police said in a media release. The man was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition.
Police reported only minor damage" to the home; damage the fire department estimates at $2,000-$5,000.
Hamilton police detectives and the Ontario Fire Marshall are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call 905-546-2963.
