New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba didn't receive supplementary discipline for hitting Chicago Blackhawks forward Jujhar Khaira during Tuesday night's contest, according to The Athletic's Mark Lazerus.

The league reportedly didn't see the head as the main point of contact and argued that Khaira's posture made head contact unavoidable.

Khaira had to be stretchered off the ice following the collision. The Blackhawks announced Wednesday he is in concussion protocol, according to Lazerus.

The 27-year-old is currently on the mend.

"Khaira was released from Northwestern Hospital early this morning after extensive testing and returned home. Despite the significant injury, his prognosis is excellent, and we expect a full recovery. At this point, it is too early to put a timeline on return to play," the Blackhawks said in a statement Wednesday.

Interim head coach Derek King said Khaira was coherent following the Blackhawks' 6-2 loss.

"He's up, he's talking, he's very responsive. I think he wants to get back on the ice," he said.

Midway through the second period, Trouba slammed into Khaira in the Blackhawks' zone. Khaira's head was down, as he appeared to be trying to find the puck in his skates before the hit.

Khaira lay motionless on the ice after contact, and play was immediately halted.
