Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS Wifi doesn't see local access points

Hello.

I have an old HP 8440P laptop with a (groan) Broadcom BCM4312 wifi card.

I can "see" non local (in other people's houses) wifi access points but neither of the two on my router a few meters away.

I remember having this problem a few years ago - can't remember the fix. Does it mean that the wifi card isn't seeing both channels on my router?

I rarely use this laptop but did update it in the last few days, after which the wifi problem emerged.

I do have a wired connection so the problem is merely a nuisance.

Any advice very welcome.

Some diagnostics:
