Maple Leafs trade Gabriel to Blackhawks for Krys
The Toronto Maple Leafs traded forward Kurtis Gabriel to the Chicago Blackhawks for defenseman Chad Krys.
Gabriel signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with Toronto in the offseason. The Newmarket, Ontario product never suited up in a regular-season game for the Leafs and has spent the entire 2021-22 campaign thus far with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, recording one goal, one assist, and 36 penalty minutes over 13 contests.
The 28-year-old has tallied five points and 153 penalty minutes in 49 career NHL games between the Minnesota Wild, New Jersey Devils, and San Jose Sharks.
The Blackhawks selected Krys in the second round of the 2016 draft. The 23-year-old blue-liner has never appeared in an NHL game, but he's registered two goals and 13 assists in 64 career AHL contests with the Rockford IceHogs.
Krys enjoyed a stellar NCAA career at Boston University prior to turning pro, racking up 58 points over 105 games for the Terriers.
