What is this network activity I'm seeing?

I'm don't seem to be having any problems. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on.

I've got an ISP-provided cable modem, a standalone network router running pfsense, a few gigabit switches, a WiFi router configured as an access point, some linux computers (laptops and desktops), one desktop is set up as a file server accessible to the LAN only, a couple of Samsung "smart" TVs, phones, and a couple of appliances. Most of these are hard wired. The desktops are set up with static IP addresses; the laptops use router-assigned IPs.

Even when all of the computers and TVs are switched off, there is still network activity--the lights on the switches flash about once a second or a little slower. I could understand if the line leading to the WiFi access point were the only one flashing, but they all flash. I'm curious about what this activity might be.

When I look at System Monitor on my desktop computer, the received packets appear to be pretty small. The most common received activity I see is in the neighborhood of 63, 80, 143, 445 bytes. For a few brief moments there might be 0 bytes received.

Most of the time, the sent bytes stays at zero, but sometimes jumps into the low 200s.

If you could point me to a web page that would help me understand what's going on, I'd sure appreciate it.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=e4f4bxGF7rk:NRPbGm8H3v4:F7zBnMy latest?i=e4f4bxGF7rk:NRPbGm8H3v4:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=e4f4bxGF7rk:NRPbGm8H3v4:gIN9vFw
