Brant County Ontario Provincial Police have released the identity of the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash on Highway 24 South late Saturday night.

In a press release Monday, police identified the driver killed in the collision as Norman Tate, 40, of Norfolk County. No further details were provided about the victim.

Just after 10 p.m. on Dec. 18, Brant County OPP and other first responders were called to a collision involving two sports utility vehicles on Highway 24 South," said OPP acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk in a video posted to Twitter.

Sanchuk said the two vehicles were travelling on the Brant County highway, north of Oakland, when they collided." Police have not released any additional information about the circumstances of the crash.

The driver of one SUV - later identified as Tate - was pronounced deceased on scene," Sanchuk said. And the passenger of the same vehicle was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, and then to Hamilton hospital for further treatment, the OPP said in a release.

The driver of the other SUV was taken to a Norfolk hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing, according to police. The highway was closed between Elliott and Oakland roads for approximately six hours as officers were on scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit tips online at helpsolvecrime.com.
