The monarch acknowledged the impact of the Covid Omicron variant, having cancelled her regular festive trip to Sandringham. Instead she was spending Christmas at Windsor Castle, joined by Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, in the Queen's first Christmas without the Duke of Edinburgh since his death.
