Motorist dead following high-speed crash at Peace Bridge
A motorist is dead after a car crashed into a toll booth barrier at a high rate of speed and burst into flames at the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie.
Emergency crews were called to the border crossing at the Queen Elizabeth Highway at about 11:40 p.m. Monday.
The vehicle sustained significant damage and caught on fire.
The lone driver was ejected from the car and, despite resuscitative efforts of first responders, was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Niagara Regional Police Const. Phil Gavin.
The identity of the deceased has not been determined.
A portion of the highway was closed for a number of hours as police conducted an investigation. The highway has since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation by members of the NRP collision reconstruction and forensic service units.
