UPDATE: Fire causes millions in damage at Nebo Road poultry plant
Hamilton firefighters battled a large blaze at an industrial property on Nebo Road for hours overnight, into Friday morning.
No one was hurt, but the damages are expected to be in the multimillion dollar range, said Hamilton Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe.
Emergency services were called to the fire at 225 Nebo Rd. around 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 7. The large commercial building houses multiple businesses.
Crews found a large fire in the freezer storage area of a poultry processing operation in the building, Cunliffe said.
The fire was upgraded to a multiple alarm, drawing crews from across the city which worked into the morning to extinguish the large fire.
Firefighters were expected to remain at the scene, putting out hot spots for most of Friday morning.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
Hamilton police said Nebo is closed between Lancing and Hempstead drives.
