Rare megaflash, also known as a low-rate horizontal discharge, leapt between clouds in Texas and Mississippi in April 2020

A single lightning bolt that leapt across three US states has been identified as the longest ever, the UN weather agency has said.

The rare low-rate horizontal discharge, or megaflash, covered 477 miles (768km) between clouds in Texas and Mississippi in April 2020.
