Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy owns an expiring contract, jeopardizing his future with the team, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Bieniemy has coordinated four straight top-six offenses with Kansas City but is still looking for his first head coaching opportunity. The 52-year-old has seemingly been stuck in the shadows of head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Bieniemy could still re-sign with the Chiefs, who have spoken glowingly of him throughout his ventures to become a head coach. He's worked for Kansas City since 2013, starting as Reid's running backs coach before taking over as offensive coordinator in 2018.

A former NFL player himself, Bieniemy has interviewed for 14 NFL head coaching jobs over the last four seasons, including two this year, the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints, according to KSHB 41 News' Nick Jacobs.

Bieniemy's two predecessors under Reid - Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy - both landed head coaching jobs after shorter stints as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator.

The Chiefs have already bid farewell to quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka, who became the New York Giants' new offensive coordinator under Brian Daboll.
