It was a "go-to" spot for Karen Brionni and her family.

The gargantuan veal sandwiches, the tasty tomato sauce on top of pasta.

Then, it was all gone, almost as fast as the food after showing up on the dinner table.

On A Bun Oakville, an Italian-style sandwich shop and restaurant on Hays Boulevard with a 4.4 out of five Google rating with 115 reviews, closed its doors after several years.

Management however, is telling customers to head over to the Burlington location, which has been re-branded as Domenic's Italian Eatery, to continue to enjoy what staff call fresh, authentic dishes.

"Domenic's is simply a restaurant that loves what we do and want everyone who comes in, to enjoy their stay, no gimmicks, no mascots, just us," according to the restaurant's website.

Oakville residents who live near the restaurant, located within walking distance of Walmart, say they will miss the convenience of having it so close.

"Excellent food," Tom Lazaro said. "Best sandwiches ever, so it makes me sad that it's no longer there and it's no longer so close."

On A Bun was once rapidly expanding but between 2019 and 2021, closed most of its locations.
