The NFL will head to Munich in 2022 for its first-ever regular-season game on German soil, commissioner Roger Goodell announced Tuesday.

The league has committed to four games in Germany between 2022 and 2025, with two apiece in Munich and Frankfurt.

"We are very pleased to welcome Munich and Frankfurt to the NFL family and are excited to reward our fans in Germany for their passion by bringing them the spectacle of regular-season NFL football," Goodell said in a statement. "We look forward to staging our first game in Germany at FC Bayern Munich's fantastic stadium later this year and to exploring areas of broader collaboration with the Bundesliga."

The NFL has four international games planned for 2022 in addition to the one in Germany. England will host three games, while Mexico will get one. The league didn't announce home teams for the international games.

Germany has emerged as one of the hottest international markets for the NFL in recent years. An estimated 19-million NFL fans reside in Germany, while viewership across the nation has risen substantially since 2017.
