The Las Vegas Raiders are prepared to discuss a contract extension with quarterback Derek Carr to keep him with the club for the foreseeable future, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Carr, 30, is entering the final campaign of a five-year, $125-million contract. He's set to earn $19.7 million next season with a $22.1-million cap hit, according to Spotrac.

The three-time Pro Bowler's future with the franchise reportedly hinged on the hirings of a new head coach and general manager. Las Vegas hired Carr's reported top choice for head coach - Josh McDaniels - in January. Under new general manager Dave Ziegler, the Raiders appear ready to re-commit to the veteran signal-caller.

Carr could be a candidate for a short-term contract after receiving a near-market deal in 2017.

The native of California led the Raiders to a 10-7 mark this past season, tallying 4,804 passing yards and 23 touchdowns while completing 68% of his pass attempts in his eighth NFL campaign.
