Teen accused of flipping SUV while doing doughnuts in Lime Ridge Mall parking lot
A 17-year-old boy has been charged with stunt driving after allegedly doing doughnuts and flipping his SUV in the parking lot of Lime Ridge Mall over the weekend.
Hamilton police were called to the Upper Wentworth Street parking lot by an independent witness" shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20.
When officers arrived they found the SUV flipped on its side, with its airbags deployed and debris from smashed windows on the ground, said Const. Indy Bharaj.
The teenage driver had been doing doughnuts in the parking lot with five passengers in his vehicle when the SUV flipped, he said.
No one was hurt.
Bharaj reminded the public that police can charge a driver with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act in parking lots, including privately-owned lots, if it is accessible from a highway.
The SUV was automatically towed and held for 14 days.
This is in addition to any possible penalties if convicted.
Hamilton police posted a photo of the flipped SUV, with two people still standing in the vehicle (their faces covered by frowning face emojis), on Twitter. Try explaining that to your parents," police tweeted.
