Will Friday be another snow day?

Will Friday be the third snow day this month, spurring yet another long weekend?

Up to 15 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in Hamilton, starting tonight and into the morning.

Environment Canada has issued two weather statements.

The first is a travel advisory warning of lake effect snow in the area on Thursday with between two and four centimetres falling on Hamilton, Stoney Creek and Grimsby by this afternoon.

The second weather statement is a winter weather advisory, warning of heavy blowing snow Thursday night and into Friday for all of southern Ontario, which could affect road conditions this evening as well as the morning commute.

Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions," the weather service warns drivers along the QEW. Drivers are warned to expect hazardous winter driving conditions and to adjust their travel plans.

But back to the big question on everyone's minds: Will there be enough snow to cancel school again?

Well, there's a website for that. Just enter your postal code and the Snow Day Predictor calculates the probability of school being closed due to weather.

Some Hamilton students have had five snow days since in-person learning resumed in mid-January. That includes Feb. 4 and Feb. 18 - both Fridays - giving students two long weekends this month alone.

Lake effect flurries are expected to end around noon Thursday, when the forecast calls for a high of -6 C, feeling like -14 C with the wind chill. More snow, heavy at times, is expected to start late in the evening and end around noon Friday.
