New Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is apparently a big believer in Tua Tagovailoa.

"I'm really excited moving forward because (Tua) has some skills that I think are untapped," McDaniel said Thursday on "Good Morning Football."

He added: "I think it's important that you empower the quarterback with the rest of the players around him and the scheme that you bring forth. So, I think his best days are in front of him, and that's a really cool piece of the process to be part of as a coach."

The Dolphins were reportedly looking for a head coach who could maximize Tagovailoa's talents following the firing of Brian Flores. A reported deteriorating relationship between the quarterback and Flores played a part in the latter's dismissal.

McDaniel explained that the organization's confidence in Tagovailoa should pay dividends moving forward.

"You could tell that it's empowering to (Tua) that there's people that believe in him," he said.

Tagovailoa has posted a 13-8 record as a starter over his first two seasons but has struggled with consistency and injuries. He threw for 16 touchdowns to 10 interceptions in 2021 while averaging just 6.8 yards per attempt.
