Report: Bucs expected to re-sign Davis to 3-year, $45M deal

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to reload for a championship run following Tom Brady's return.

The Buccaneers are expected to re-sign free-agent cornerback Carlton Davis to a three-year, $45-million contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. He will also receive $30 million in guaranteed money, the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud reports.

Davis' average salary of $15 million will put him just inside the NFL's top 10 highest-paid corners, according to Over The Cap.

The 25-year-old was arguably Tampa Bay's most important pending free agent among a large group of players following a standout first four campaigns in the league.

Davis was a key part of the franchise's Super Bowl run in 2020, racking up career highs with four interceptions and 66 total tackles during the regular season.

The Auburn product missed seven games last campaign due to a quad injury, but he still produced 11 pass breakups and one interception.

The Bucs already re-signed Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen to a three-year deal reportedly worth $39 million before he hit free agency. Meanwhile, with Brady back in the fold, the NFC South club apparently hopes to re-sign tight end Rob Gronkowski.
