Mikaela Shiffrin on cusp of overall World Cup title after rare downhill win

• American wins first downhill in two years to extend overall lead
• Shiffrin's 74th career World Cup win is only her second downhill
• Christine Scheyer, Joana Haehlen finish in tie for second place

Mikaela Shiffrin increased her lead over Petra Vlhova in a close race for the overall title by winning the downhill on Wednesday at the World Cup finals.

Shiffrin had barely raced downhill this season - two World Cup events in December and then last month's Beijing Olympics. Her best result was 18th.
