Report: Winston drawing interest from Saints, Colts
Free-agent quarterback Jameis Winston has spoken with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts over a potential move, reports Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.
New Orleans made an offer that would bring the veteran passer back to the club for a third season, according to Anderson.
"I still view myself as a starter in this league and that's what I'm looking for," Winston said.
The former Pro Bowl signal-caller threw for 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns, and three interceptions in seven contests last season before suffering an ACL injury that ended his campaign.
Winston, who was efficient for the Saints following Drew Brees' retirement, remains in good spirits as he continues to rehab from the injury.
The 28-year-old previously dazzled with NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers for five seasons after being selected with the first overall pick in 2015. He's two seasons removed from tallying career highs in passing yards (5,109) and touchdowns (33).
The Saints have reportedly narrowed their attention on the Houston Texans' Deshaun Watson. Winston could serve as an insurance policy if the franchise is unable to obtain the three-time Pro Bowler passer.
The Colts are exploring different starting quarterback options after trading Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders earlier in March.
