Raiders grab Adams from Packers, reportedly sign him to record $141M deal
The Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2022 first- and second-round pick, the Raiders announced Friday.
Adams will receive a new contract worth $141.25 million over five years with the Raiders, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 29-year-old's $28.25-million average annual salary will be the highest among receivers, surpassing Arizona Cardinals wideout DeAndre Hopkins' $27.25 million, according to Spotrac.
The Packers franchise tagged Adams earlier this month. They offered more money than Las Vegas ultimately handed him, but Adams wanted to play with the Raiders, his agents confirmed to Rapoport.
In Las Vegas, Adams will reunite with former college teammate Derek Carr. The duo spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons together at Fresno State, with Adams totaling over 3,000 yards for 38 receiving touchdowns. Adams said last offseason that it would be a dream to play with Carr again.
Carr welcomed Adams to the team on Twitter shortly after the trade was reported.
Adams' departure from the Packers comes days after the announcement of Aaron Rodgers' new deal. The quarterback negotiated his three-year, $150.8-million extension while aware that Adams wouldn't play for Green Bay again, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Green Bay has a large void at receiver with Adams gone. Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers are among those under contract, while Allen Lazard received a second-round tender as a restricted free agent. Meanwhile, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who finished with 430 receiving yards last season, is an unrestricted free agent.
The Packers have been involved in the receiver market over the past week and are expected to continue their pursuit, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Adams placed himself in the conversation as the league's top receiver during his Packers tenure. He's made five straight Pro Bowls and was selected as a first-team All-Pro in each of the last two campaigns. He recorded a career-high 123 receptions and 1,553 receiving yards last season.
