Rents across the city are skyrocketing, while the inflation rate soars and housing prices continue to climb.

Hamilton is now the 18th most expensive city to rent an apartment in Canada.

If that's got you considering home ownership, here's a rundown of Hamilton's least - and most (for the fantasy) - expensive house listings from March, according to Zoocasa.

Five lowest-priced homes

187 Lottridge St.

First-time home buyers looking for a detached house in the lower city will be intrigued by this $449,900 price tag. This Stipley home has three bedrooms, a renovated kitchen and a backyard. The basement is unfinished and the attic has the potential to be renovated.

222 Grosvenor Ave. N.

Listed for $499,000 on March 7, this three-bedroom, newly renovated home in Crown Point West sold for $695,000 on March 16. The kitchen, bathrooms, laundry and plumbing were upgraded this year. There's also two parking spots, a steal for those with motorized vehicles.

40 Fullerton Ave.

Toronto-based Studio ALC designed and renovated this Gibson home. It was listed for $499,000 on March 8 and sold a week later at a respectable $730,000. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom, semi-detached home backs onto Birch Park, so while the backyard is smaller, you're a short jaunt from some, though limited, greenery.

172 London St. N.

Another home listed in early March and sold a week later is this Crown Point East detached property. It was posted for $499,900 before selling at $745,500 on the 14th. It's over 100 years old, but you wouldn't know it from the inside - or at least the photos. It's on a corner lot and has a partially finished basement, along with two bedrooms and one bath.

17 Albemarle St.

Three bedrooms, detached, with plenty of natural light is what greets those looking at this $499,900 home stationed in Industrial Sector C. It's got a fully fenced backyard, and was listed once before in 2020 for $369,990 before the sale was suspended.

Five highest-priced homes

9 Lochside Dr.

Featured with last month's most expensive listings, this three-bedroom home is now posted at $5,490,000, dropped from the original price of $5,990,000 on Jan. 26. If $500,000 makes a difference, the lakeside property includes an indoor pool, sauna and a redesigned and renovated main floor.

80 Chesswood Trail

If you want to be a good acre away from your neighbours, perhaps this Puslinch home is perfect for you ... and the 20 friends you'll need to afford to purchase this $4,950,000 property. The listing for this custom-built estate boasts a floor-to-ceiling fireplace, four-season room and a separate three-car garage. The driveway fits 25 cars - imagine the number of tiny homes you could house.

55 Windemere Rd.

Another expensive home from last month makes an appearance on this list. Posted on Jan. 29 for $4,888,000, this Stoney Creek mansion has been reduced to $4,488,800. Love to be on the water? Long to breathe in that fresh, fishy Lake Ontario air? This four-bedroom, four-bath home on a double lot has vaulted ceilings, a floating staircase and no buyers.

6355 Hwy. 56

This Binbrook bungalow is still on the market for $4,200,000 after being listed on Feb. 16. Wait a few more weeks and you might just see that price drop. Ten acres, an independent workshop and plenty of features you'd expect to find in a multimillion-dollar home.

277 Golf Links Rd.

If your home office is missing a spiral staircase, then this is the place for you. Posted on Feb. 24 for $3,688,000, this custom Ancaster home is a short walk from the Hamilton Golf and Country Club. It's got an in-ground pool in the backyard and a billiards table inside.
