Portion of Cannon Street in downtown Hamilton to close for construction
As part of upgrades to Hamilton's Central neighbourhood, a few streets in the downtown core will be closed starting next week for construction.
In a press release Tuesday, the city said Cannon Street West will be closed between MacNab Street North and Bay Street North to complete work at the Cannon and Park Street intersection.
The neighbourhood upgrades, starting on April 4, include water main and sewer replacement, road and sidewalk reconstruction, road resurfacing, and intersection improvements.
The city said the work is expected to take four weeks to complete and will wrap up by May 2.
Motorists and cyclists should follow signs for detours, the city said. Drivers and Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) passengers may expect delays along Cannon.
Local access will be maintained, but there will be no through access at the Park and Cannon intersection, the city said in the release.
There will be limited on-street parking availability during construction.
The city said businesses in the area will remain open throughout construction, while residents and businesses impacted by noise, dust, or changes in water services will be notified in advance.
