Patrick Peterson returning to Vikings for 2022 season

Eight-time Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson announced Wednesday he's returning to the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 on a one-year deal.

Peterson's new contract will contain $4 million in base value with $3.5 million guaranteed, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

"It's a great group of guys. I just felt like it was right to be there and grind with those guys. The team is stacked. We just couldn't put it all together in certain situations (last year). I think we got better this offseason," Peterson said, according to Sports Illustrated's Will Ragatz.

"It's going to be fun to get back into the building and see all of this manifest," he added.

The 31-year-old joined Minnesota last year after spending a decade with the Arizona Cardinals. Although Peterson's prime is behind him, he started 13 games with the Vikings last year, racking up 45 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception.

The LSU product, who the Cardinals drafted fifth overall in 2011, earned Pro Bowl nods in each of his first eight NFL seasons to go along with three All-Pro berths.

Peterson also met with the Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and Washington Commanders this offseason, according to Purple Insider's Sam Ekstrom.

Peterson's return to Minnesota provides depth for a secondary that has been looking for star playmakers. The Vikings, who recently added cornerback Chandon Sullivan on a one-year deal, are also expected to address their need in this year's NFL draft.

"I think they're definitely going to draft a corner," Peterson said.
