One sent to hospital after highrise fire on Hamilton Mountain

One person was sent to hospital after a multiple alarm fire in a senior's building on Hamilton Mountain late Wednesday.
Emergency crews were called to a report of a fire on the 10th floor of a residential building at 801 Upper Gage Avenue between Mohawk Road East and Pemberton Avenue just before 10:30 p.m.
One the scene, fire crews found heavy smoke on that floor and residents were evacuating the building.
In an email, Chief Dave Cunliffe said fire crews then advised residents not to evacuate through the smoke and to stay in their apartments and shelter in place."
A fire was found in an apartment and quickly put out by firefighters.
However, a resident on the 10th floor was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to hospital.
There was no one home in the apartment which contained the fire.
Damages are estimated to be up to $300,000 but the cause of the fire has not been determined.
