Heavy snow is on the way, Hamilton.

A winter travel advisory calling for up to eight centimetres of snow this afternoon and evening has been issued for the city and most of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada issued the warning Monday morning, saying snow could fall as fast as three centimetres per hour, suddenly reducing visibility at times.

The sunny skies are expected to cloud over around noon. Rain mixed with snow will begin in the early afternoon and change to heavy snow by around 5 p.m.

The weather service says to expect deeper snow on the Mountain and along the Niagara Escarpment, where temperatures are slightly cooler.

It also calls for a 40 per cent chance of flurries changing to rain on Tuesday.
