Two injured in serious crash between car and truck at King and Dundurn
A man and a child have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash with a tractor trailer at King and Dundurn streets Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to the intersection shortly before 9:10 a.m. April 25 for the two-vehicle crash between the tractor trailer and a black, four-door Acura, said Const. Indy Bharaj.
A man and a girl were in the Acura and suffered serious injuries.
The car was crushed by the impact. Hamilton firefighters had to cut the top of the car to free the injured pair.
Both individuals were conscious when taken to hospital," Bharaj said.
Paramedics transported a 12-year-old girl in stable condition and a man in his 30s in serious condition, said Hamilton Paramedic Service Supt. Dave Thompson.
King and Dundurn are both closed in all directions at the scene. Police are waiting to hear back from hospitals about the seriousness of the injuries.
Police are still in the early stages of the investigation, but it appears the tractor trailer was making a left turn from Dundurn onto King, Bharaj said. The Acura was southbound driving through the intersection when the collision occurred.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt. He remained at the scene and is co-operating with police.
Police recognize the intersection is among the top 10 worst intersections for crashes in Hamilton, Bharaj said.
The intersection of Dundurn and King has been particularly dangerous for pedestrians, with the highest number (11) of pedestrian crashes that resulted in either injury or fatality in the city from 2016 to 2020. There were a total 26 collisions in which someone was killed or injured in total at the intersection during that period, according to the City of Hamilton's latest annual collision report.
More to come.
