Stoney Creek home suffers ‘significant damage’ in Friday afternoon fire
Two people and a dog managed to escape a Stoney Creek house fire unharmed early Friday afternoon.
In an email to The Spectator, Hamilton Fire Department acting assistant deputy chief Brian Dickson said crews were called to a structure fire on Green Road between Highway 8 and Carla Avenue around 12:15 p.m.
Dickson said first arriving crews reported smoke and flames coming from a single-storey house, with the blaze making its way up the side of the building and into the roof.
A man, a woman and a dog, had all evacuated the home on their own, said Hamilton police Const. Krista-Lee Ernst. They were not injured, she noted.
Dickson said given the spread of the fire, the call was upgraded to a multiple alarm blaze and additional trucks were called in from across the city.
The fire was quickly knocked down on the outside of the house, however it had extended into both the roof and attic. The well-involved" blaze was then extinguished by crews working inside.
A cause of the fire is under investigation. It's unknown how much damage the blaze caused.
However, Dickson said the house did sustain significant damage" to both the exterior as well as the roof and attic.
Green Road was closed between Highway 8 and Carla Avenue for more than two hours while crews were on scene.
