New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba won't face supplementary discipline for his hit on Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby during Game 5 on Wednesday night, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Crosby exited the contest late in the second period moments after colliding with Trouba. There was no penalty called on the play.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Crosby's dealing with an upper-body injury on Thursday morning, adding that he will be evaluated once the team returns to Pittsburgh.

The Penguins held a 2-0 lead before Crosby's injury, but New York subsequently scored three quick goals en route to their 5-3 must-win victory. Pittsburgh holds a 3-2 series lead.

Trouba was involved in a pair of questionable plays during the regular season: Chicago Blackhawks forward Jujhar Khaira had to be stretchered off the ice following a collision with the rearguard, while Colorado Avalanche star Nathan Mackinnon was left shaken up after a big hit from Trouba. He wasn't fined or suspended in either case.

The 28-year-old was suspended for two games back in 2017 while he was with the Winnipeg Jets for an illegal check to Mark Stone's head.
