One of the best junior hockey players to ever pass through the Scenic City is a finalist for the National Hockey League's coach of the year award. Andrew Brunette, who played three seasons for the Owen Sound Platers from 1990 to 1993 and is the team's second all-time leading scorer behind Bobby Ryan, has been named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award for the coach who contributes most to their team's success. Brunette, 48, was named interim head coach of the Panthers on October 29, 2021. Under Brunette's tenure, Florida played to a 51-18-6 record and scored a league-leading 306 goals, averaging a league-best 4.08 goals per game. The Panthers finished the season with a league-best 58-18-6 record, earning the franchise's first Presidents' Trophy and a third division title.
