Man shot by police after reports of person carrying rifle in east Toronto neighbourhood
Toronto police say a man has been shot by police northeast of Port Union Road and Lawrence Avenue East.
Earlier they tweeted that a man was seen walking down the street seen carrying a rifle.
A police firearm was discharged, a tweet from police said.
Earlier police said a person was spotted around 12:57 p.m. on Thursday in the area of Maberley Crescent and Oxhorn Road, that's northeast of Port Union Road and Lawrence Avenue East.
Nearby schools are in lockdown and others have been placed in hold and secure.
The person was described as a male in his late teens or early 20s with a white ball cap wearing a long coat.
Officers are now on scene investigating.
