Hurricanes lose Raanta to lower-body injury

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta was forced to exit Game 7 of their second-round series against the New York Rangers after lunging to make a save late in the second period. He suffered a lower-body injury and didn't return to the game.

Raanta had to be helped off the ice, and Pyotr Kochetkov replaced him. Ryan Strome scored to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead soon after Kochetkov entered. New York went on to a 6-2 victory to win the series.

The Hurricanes also lost promising forward Seth Jarvis, who left earlier and was ruled out due to injury.

Raanta performed admirably while filling in for the injured Frederik Andersen in the playoffs. Raanta entered Game 7 with a .924 save percentage over 12 games. The 33-year-old stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced Monday before exiting.

He was also hurt in Game 2 of Carolina's first-round series against the Boston Bruins on a collision with David Pastrnak. Raanta missed the rest of that contest and Game 3 before returning to the crease for Game 4.
