Panthers' Robbie Anderson considering retirement
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robbie Anderson is considering retirement ahead of his seventh NFL campaign.
Anderson, 29, is heading into his third season with the Panthers in 2022.
The veteran wideout signed a two-year, $29.5-million extension with the Panthers prior to last season. He's set to count $10.9 million toward the salary cap, according to Over the Cap.
The Temple product spent his first four seasons in the league as a member of the New York Jets after going undrafted in 2016. He recorded 207 receptions, 3,059 yards, and 20 touchdowns during his tenure in New York.
Anderson posted career highs in receptions (95) and yards (1,096) after signing with Carolina as a free agent following the 2019 season. He hauled in 53 receptions for 519 yards and five touchdowns last season.
If the New Jersey native opts to hang up the cleats for good, the Panthers will likely lean even more on DJ Moore, who has led the team in receiving yards in each of the past three seasons. Terrace Marshall Jr. and Rashard Higgins are among veteran options that would see an increase in playing time.
