Two injured in downtown Hamilton shooting

Hamilton police say they are investigating a shooting in the downtown core Sunday afternoon that left two people with minor injuries.

In a news release, police said officers were called to the area Hess Street North and Market Street around 4:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

Hamilton Paramedic Services superintendent Dave Thompson said paramedics transported two male victims with penetrative wounds" to a local trauma centre.

No further details have been released about the incident.

At the scene, at least eight shell cases could be spotted littering the road in front of an apartment building at 160 Market St. A set of keys and a cell phone could also be seen lying nearby.

In front of the apartment building, a white, four-door Nissan Versa could be seen with a bullet hole under the driver's side door handle. Across the street, a red, four-door Toyota Corolla had its driver's side window shot out.

The Division 1 criminal investigations branch has taken over the probe into the shooting.

Police are asking residents in the area to review any security footage they may have captured between 4 and 5 p.m. for any suspicious activity. Detectives are also asking motorists who were in the area to check their dash cam footage for anything that may be suitable for review."
