It could feel like 40 in Hamilton during two-day heat event
Steamy hot weather feeling like 40 is possible in the coming days with Hamilton expecting a two-day heat event.
Environment Canada and the city issued heat warnings Tuesday afternoon with daytime temperatures expecting to climb into the 30s Wednesday afternoon, perhaps as high as 33 C. Humidex values will likely be near 40," the weather agency says.
Overnight temperatures Wednesday night are not likely to fall below 20 C and then another scorcher is expected Thursday.
By Thursday night there should be some relief from the heat.
The city will be activating its cooling place" during the heat event, marked by signs that say Cool Down Here." Also, open swims at city pools will be free. Find a list of cooling sites at hamilton.ca/heat.
Extreme heat affects everyone," Environment Canada says, but risk is greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Residents are warned to drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place.
