Man killed in Kenilworth Access crash was on his way to work: Hamilton police
A man in his 30s is dead after a single-vehicle crash on the Kenilworth Access Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the area just before 7 a.m. June 22 and found a single vehicle on its side toward the bottom of the escarpment access, said Hamilton police Const. Indy Bharaj.
At the scene, a white minivan could be seen on its side at the entrance to a water reservoir. Fencing in the area was knocked down.
Bharaj said it appears the man was driving to work, downbound on the Kenilworth Access, when he lost control of his vehicle, drifting to the right. The van came to rest on the driver's side.
With the help of Hamilton fire the man was extracted from the vehicle, but was pronounced dead soon after.
Police are working to notify next of kin.
The crash was not related to construction work happening in the area.
It's unclear what caused the driver to lose control. Police have not ruled out any possible factors.
The Kenilworth Access was closed for several hours for the investigation by the collision reconstruction unit. It reopened before noon.
This marks the 14th traffic death in Hamilton this year, including three drivers and 11 pedestrians killed.
