Crane hits overpass and car on Lincoln Alexander Parkway
A truck caused extensive damage to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway when its crane hit the Upper Sherman Avenue overpass and then a car Monday morning.
The boom truck was eastbound on the parkway around 10 a.m. when its crane - which was mistakenly raised - hit the overpass, causing the crane to rip off and hit a car, said Hamilton police Const. Krista-Lee Ernst.
The driver of the car, a woman in her late 60s, suffered minor injuries.
The impact caused extensive damage to the overpass and the road and sent debris flying over the parkway.
All eastbound lanes of the Lincoln Alexander Parkway were initially closed between Upper Wentworth Street and Upper Gage Avenue. One lane of traffic has since been opened, however, police say traffic is moving very slowly and to avoid the area.
The Upper Sherman overpass was also closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, but was reopened by around 1 p.m.
The driver of the truck, who was not hurt, remained at the scene.
Police continue to investigate.
